You’re ungrateful, I gave you hits: Kabza De Small blasts DJ Stokie
Amapiano star Kabza De Small has slammed DJ Stokie, accusing him of being ungrateful despite helping him release hits.
DJ Stokie (real name Setoki Mbatha), who is considered one of the first few DJs to popularise Amapiano in Soweto, accused Kabza (real name Kabelo Motha) of sidelining and forgetting him now that he is more famous. He said this in an interview on Kaya FM 959, which was premiered on YouTube on 12 February 2022.
During the interview, DJ Stokie spoke of how the South African music industry is so fickle, and how people easily change.
“If Kabza called me at night and said he is stuck, I would wake up even if I’m sleeping. I’d wake up to go help him, but when it comes to me, they never do that for me,” DJ Stokie grumbled.
Kabza De Small did not take this lightly and retorted furiously in a tweet that he later deleted:
“Ungrateful n*ggars ba bonka nge plate lamas*mba [ungrateful n*s be chilling with a plate full of sh*t]. I did your first album bra, yonke. And then this is how you thank me? I gave you hits.”
The deleted tweet later resurfaced, as it was reposted as a screenshot, and it generated mixed reactions from SA Twitter. Some people were in DJ Stokie’s corner and said he was rather praising Kabza De Small during the interview.
Kabza Da Small helped DJ Stokie polish his production skills, paving the way for him to start working on his own music. The “King of Amapiano” also helped the “Kasi Hero” produce and release his first album, Amapiano Movement Vol. 1.
Kabza also featured on DJ Stokie’s songs Superman and Dlala Stokie, which gained critical acclaim. Superman, off Stokie’s 2020 album My journey, was voted as one of the top tracks on the Kaya 959 charts in 2021.
