Wanda Genevieve Simiele February 3, 2022 On 03 Feb 2022, Wanda Genevieve Simiele, of Syracuse, NY, died peacefully in her home at age 90. Born on March 23, 1931, in Syracuse NY, to first-generation Americans, Wanda and Chester Poniatowski, “Little Wanda” would grow up in the backdrop of the restaurant that her mother opened in 1947 following the death of husband, Chester. That business, “Wanda’s Restaurant,” would support the senior Wanda and her five children for many years. “Wanda’s”-located at the corner of Thompson Rd and Erie Blvd E-thrived for decades catering to both LeMoyne College and S.U. students. “Little Wanda” went on to earn a beautician’s license, participating in hair styling competitions in NYC, Las Vegas and elsewhere, and subsequently opened a beauty shop in Westvale that she operated for several years. Little Wanda’s sons inherited the family’s entrepreneurial spirit, opening the highly successful and long running 700 North Salina Street “Antonio’s Restaurant.” Little Wanda-often seen hosting in the earliest days at “Antonio’s” or baking dessert pastries-was integral to the restaurant’s success. She was also the very heart and life of her family who adored her. Wanda is survived by her sons, Michael and Anthony Simiele and Nicholas LaPenta, all of Syracuse NY; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; daughter, Pamela Johnson of Kensington MD, and nieces, Cheryl Mulle-Post of Florida and Susan and Kimberly Poniatowski of Oregon. Wanda was predeceased by siblings, Jane Nycz, Sherry Mulle, and Frank and John Poniatowski, and daughter, Penelope Terrinoni. Wanda will be remembered for her strong love of family, zest for life, hosting of summer picnics, movie star good looks, and wide array of close, loving friends. Due to coronavirus concerns, there will be no funeral service. A memorial mass will be announced at a later date.
