Tragic moment as a woman scalded her husband’s face with cooking oil and porridge over a misunderstanding.
It was gathered from a local publication that, Benny Chamunorwa age 30 of Simbi Park in Redcliff was attacked by his wife, Esther Mugwanyi (26), who poured hot cooking oil and porridge over him after an argument.
Prosecuting, Ms. Ethel Bhumure told the court that on August 28 at around 7 PM, a woman whose name was not disclosed went to the couple’s place of residence asking him to settle a debt.
Chamunorwa did not have the money to settle the debt so instead, he offered the women gumboots as payment for an unspecified amount of money he owed.
The woman is alleged to have accepted the gumboots as payment.
However, this did not go down well with Mugwanyi who confronted her husband over the matter. An altercation ensued between the two resulting in Mugwanyi grabbing a pot that was on the stove with hot cooking oil and splashing it on her husband’s face.
As if that wasn’t enough, Mugwanyi went on to grab another pot containing hot porridge and poured it all over Chamunorwa’s body. Chamunorwa screamed in pain, causing his neighbors to rush to his home to discern what was taking place.
His neighbors immediately rushed him to Kwekwe General Hospital where he was treated and later discharged. He sustained severe burns on his face, hands, stomach, and neck.
A formal report was made at the nearest police station leading to Mugwanyi’s arrest
Mugwanyi was arraigned before Kwekwe Magistrate Mrs. Florence Nago facing charges of contravening the Domestic Violence Act. She was remanded in custody to September 21.
