The Dutchman was United’s first summer signing, and while signed to bring in competition for Luke Shaw, he has effectively taken over a first choice already.

The former Feyenoord star was at his tenacious best against Arsenal, even if he did not venture too far forward to contribute from an attacking perspective.

He did the job which was asked of him, making eight ball recoveries, three interceptions, and winning four duels in total. Malacia made two clearances, winning one foul, and touched the ball 51 times in total.

“He played really well,” manager Erik ten Hag told the club website, adding that he was happy with the whole back four.

Shaw may come back in for Thursday night’s game with Real Sociedad if Erik ten Hag rotates the team, but it is likely Malacia will return on Sunday against Crystal Palace.

The match against Palace will provide another test, potentially with Wilfried Zaha going up against him. But having come through a clash with Mohamed Salah already, with flying colours, Malacia has nothing to fear.

Key Reasons Why Man United Signed The Red Hot Brazilian Speedy Winger

Manchester United is on the cusp of completing the signing of the highly-rated winger Antony from Ajax.

According to reports, Man United will initially pay a guaranteed £80.75m plus another £4.25m in add-ons. It is also reported that the Brazilian winger is expected to land in Manchester for his medicals.

“Antony to Manchester United, here we go! Agreement in principle with Ajax, €100m fee. Contract until June 2027 with an option until 2028. To be signed tomorrow. #MUFC Contracts being prepared, it’s Eredivisie historical record fee — Antony will be in Manchester next week,” confirmed Fabrizo Romano.

As of late, Man United have been struggling to cement its top-four position since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjær. To revive the club’s lost glory and compete for the premier league title, the Glazer family appointed Erik Ten Hag as the new coach.

Having been appointed as the club’s new coach, Ten Hag has signed Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro. These are good signings, and so far, Lisandro and Malacia have impressed.

Why Man United Signed Winger Antony?

The coming in of Antony will also make a good signing for Man United, considering how Antony is good at unlocking opponent’s defence through his silky skills. Despite his ability to keep defenders on their toes, Antony is also good at converting chances upfront. At Ajax, the Brazilian winger managed to score 25 goals in 82 appearances.

Comparing with forwards, Elanga, Rashford, Sancho and Martial, the Brazilian scored 8 goals during the 2021/22 season whilst the aforementioned players scored 10 goals combined, So signing  Antony could help Ten Hag to get more goals upfront.

Goals Last Season
Cristiano Ronaldo – 18
Antony – 8
Marcus Rashford – 4
Jadon Sancho – 3
Anthony Elanga – 2
Anthony Martial – 1

Erik Ten Hag’s move to rekindle his relationship with Antony is also justified due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s uncertain future at Old Trafford. The wantaway Ronaldo has been pushing to leave Old Trafford this summer and is looking for a club competing in the UEFA Champions League.

Since Ronaldo is on the verge of leaving, Antony makes a good signing financially in that Man United won’t need to go into the market splashing more money, looking for another striker to fill the gap. Instead, Ten Hag can move Marcus Rashford to the central position and play the Brazilian player from both wings. challenging Elanga and Sancho.

Another issue which Man United could have considered before signing Antony was his future at Old Trafford. Youthful Antony on paper has the potential to develop into a world star under the tutelage of Erik Ten Hag. And if  Antony develops into a world star, the price tag of the Brazilian could soar in the coming years which will be a financial benefit to the Red Devils.
