Tynwald School Driver Finally Arrested After Going Into Hiding Following Horrific Nyanga Accident

 

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have finally arrested Tynwald High School driver Machimbidzofa Chamunorwa almost three weeks after he went into hiding following the Nyanga bus accident.

Chamunorwa went into hiding following the horrific accident, which left almost 40 schoolchildren and teachers seriously injured. Six schoolchildren died in the accident.

The horror accident occurred after the Tynwald High School driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve and crashed at Pine Tree Inn, close to Juliasdale in Nyanga.

According to survivors, Chamunorwa was speeding and ignored repeated pleas from the students and the teachers to slow down.

According to state media, Chamunowa was arrested in Harare after the police learned that he was going around expressing condolences to the parents of the deceased pupils through an intermediary.

Mr MacMillan Mutusva, one of the parents of the deceased, told the Sunday Mail,

“The driver had been in hiding, and nobody knew about his whereabouts.

“He never showed himself after the horrific incident; he would send his brother and lawyers.”

 

However, according to other reports, it is suspected that the Tynwald High School driver only surfaced after the school froze his salary.

At the time of publishing, Tynwald High School headmaster Mr Kenias Matimba could not be reached to comment on the issue.

 

The police are yet to issue an official statement confirming the arrest of the Tynwald driver.  Harare Province police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chikanza, said

 

“We are yet to receive a report of the arrest.”
