A woman has been charged for allegedly stuffing wet wipes down a toddler’s throat which caused him to choke to death.

Chelsea Cooley, 31, claims to be the three-year-old’s stepmum and is believed to have delayed a call to emergency services before telling them he was “cold to the touch, not breathing and had something lodged in his throat.”

Medics rushed to the home in Pennsylvania and took the boy to Bedford hospital on the evening of May 28. He was sadly pronounced dead the following day.

A worried neighbour said she heard Cooley tell the boy to “shut up” multiple times and Cooley later told the cops that her “stepson” has behavioural issues and had thrown a “temper tantrum” earlier that day.

An autopsy revealed the child’s manner of death was a homicide and said it was caused by “manual strangulation and asphyxiation due to airway obstruction.”

Medics confirmed that they had to remove four wet wipes from the victim’s throat and said they were “soiled with blood” and “packed together.”

According to investigators, a medic “did not believe that the child would have been able to put the wipes down his own throat.”

It was also found that the only wet wipes in the home were kept in the bathroom and not the boy’s bedroom, which is where he was found.

It was reported that “extensive bruising” was found on his chest, while faeces were reportedly located on his hands, reports WJAC.

Cooley allegedly sent a picture to the boy’s father, who was at work at the time, which “showed the boy lying on the bathroom floor with ‘visible marks’ around his neck and mouth.”

The father told authorities that Cooley had become irritated by his son’s behaviour that evening, reports Law and Crime.

Cooley was taken into custody on Monday (May 30) and charged with criminal homicide, strangulation, and aggravated assault of a victim less than six years old.
