In a tragic development, a Binga woman fell off a tree and died while gathering wild fruits.

61-year-old Sophia Mudimba  of Nampande village in Chief Sinakoma’s area died after falling from a busika/mpapanyuka.

Councillor Naison Mugande confirmed the tragic incident which happened last week Wednesday.

“They left home on August 25 going to gather busika. The villagers say she and two others climbed a tree when she suddenly fell and became unconscious. Villagers rushed her to Senga clinic but she was dead before they could get there,” he said.

The now deceased  was reportedly in the company of Rebecca Muleya aged 63 and a minor boy when  the tragic accident happened.

New Zimbabwe reports that the trio went to a nearby bush to gather wild fruits and climbed a tree before Mudimba lost balance and fell to the ground.

Villagers tried to ferry her to Senga Clinic but she died along the way.

Binga magistrate Urgent Vundla waived the  postmortem after police investigating the case revealed that no foul play was suspected.

In other news, iHarare reported that three Zimbabweans were  arrested in South Africa on Monday for stealing railway tracks.

Maxwell Muchenje, 39, Maxwell Dube, 32, and Witness Mbabo, 27, were arrested together with 13 other people in South Africa for stealing transformers and railway tracks in Mpumalanga province.

Hawks found four trucks inside Mashcor Scrap dealership still loaded with railway tracks.

The Hawks discovered that the railway tracks had been stolen from a decommissioned line, while the transformers and palisade were stolen from the working substation.
