Tokyo Olympics: Ese Brume wins Nigeria’s first medal

Nigeria’s first medal at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics was earned by Ese Brume.

In the long jump, she took bronze.

Brume’s 6.97m leap was just 0.3 meters short of Malaika Mihambo of Germany (7.00m) and Brittney Reese of the United States (6.97m).

To qualify for the final, the African Record holder leapt to a distance of 6.76m, 1cm longer than the necessary mark.

Brume became Nigeria’s only athlete in the jumps, foll the disqualification of Ruth Usoro by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

She was also Nigeria’s only medalist at the last World Championship in Doha.

Ahead of the Olympic Games, Brume broke Chioma Ajunwa’s long-standing record of 7.12m.
