The Queen actor Sello Maake Ka Ncube’s Ex-Wife Humiliated In Court As Judge Slashes R123 000 to R3 500

Veteran actor Sello Maake KaNcube won a huge victory over his ex-wife Palesa Mboweni after she was humiliated at the courts.

The former The Queen actor was vindicated at the courts after judges slashed his ex-wife’s legal bill from a massive R123 000 to just R3 500.

Maake Ka Ncube was married to Palesa Mboweni for just eight months. The marriage ended on a bad note, and the two were engaged in a tumultuous and highly contentious divorce.

After the divorce, he was asked to foot his ex-wife’s legal costs and was shocked to discover that he had to pay over R123 000 to her lawyers.

The former Generations and The Queen actor challenged the exorbitant legal bill sent to him by Palesa Mboweni’s lawyers, Baloyi Ntsako Attorneys.

According to Sunday World, part of the legal bill included the following:

  • R5000 for file opening and administration
  • R2261 for receiving and perusing discovery notices,
  • R21 000 plus for preparing for their divorce trial,
  • R43 000 plus for attending the trial and
  • R13 000 plus for attending a pre-trial meeting.

Sello Maake Ka Ncube challenged his ex-wife’s legal bill saying that the costs and expenses were not reasonably incurred.

Part of his court papers read,

“Although it may be found that all expenses were reasonably and properly incurred, the quantum for such accounts and documents were not reasonable, and the taxing master should have the opportunity to call such accounts and documents as he/she may think necessary in order to decide the reasonableness thereof. Take further notice that the plaintiff’s objections are attached hereto.”

 

In response, Palesa’s lawyers dragged him to Johannesburg Regional Court on July 29 to force him to pay up.

However, the court agreed with the veteran actor and ruled in his favour. The judge slashed the R123 000 bill to just R7 000. The court also said that Sello Maake ka Ncube and his ex-wife should split the legal bill meaning that he only needed to pay R3 500.

This, he promptly did.

Speaking to the publication, on his victory over his ex-wife, Sello Maake Ka Ncube said,

“…the taxing master reduced it to R7000. He also said because we’re married in community of property, she should pay 50 percent of the amount. So I immediately paid them R3500.

“I welcome the ruling by the court, and I have paid my 50% of the legal bill.”

The veteran actor called on his ex-wife to move on with her life for the sake of her children.

“I wish Ms Mboweni can move on from this matter and more importantly move on for the sake of her children. In her quest to tarnish my name she is unfortunately doing the same with her own name. I wish her all the best with the rest of her life,” he said.

However, the issue may not be over yet as his ex-wife’s lawyers have vowed to appeal the ruling.  Terrence Baloyi of Baloyi Ntsako Attorneys said,

“We have lost this matter because we have sent a junior lawyer to court, but we are hopeful that another court will find in our favour.”

 

The actor previously revealed that he almost committed suicide during his 8-month marriage to ex-wife Palesa Mboweni. Maake KaNcube had no kind words for his ex-wife, whom he described as a con artist who tried to change her children’s surnames to his without his knowledge or consent.
