Teen dies after horror ‘botched boob job’ left her in coma

Tragedy struck as a teen girl died after being in a coma for more than a year following a botched boob job.

Emmalyn Nguyen, 19, had arranged to go under the knife for a breast augmentation procedure at Colorado Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery on August 1, 2019.

But after she was administered pre-op anaesthesia, Emmalyn went into cardiac arrest and didn’t even make it into surgery.

Her surgeon, Dr Geoffrey Kim, allegedly admitted he didn’t call 911 until about five hours later, according to a lawsuit brought by the late teenager’s family.

Emmalyn, who was 18 at the time, was left brain damaged and in a coma. She never regained full consciousness and required round-the-clock medical care from a nursing home.

She had appeared to be making progress recently and was even seen to smile at time, but she developed severe pneumonia on October 2. She was resuscitated but died two days later.

“Emmalyn’s parents and siblings are heartbroken,” her family’s attorney David Woodruff told local media.

“This turn of events was sadly unexpected.”

He added: “The world has lost a wonderful, sweet, vibrant young lady. She had a lifetime ahead of her which was needlessly cut short.”

A memorial service was held for the teen on Sunday.

Emmalyn’s family took legal action against Dr Kim and anaesthetist Rex Meeker, accusing them of gross negligence. Mr Woodruff said they intend to move forward with the litigation as a wrongful death suit.

“Emmalyn’s parents believe it is imperative to tell Emmalyn’s story, both to bring her justice and also to help prevent this from ever happening to another patient,” Woodruff told KCNC.

Dr Kim’s medical licence was temporarily suspended after the incident, but it was reinstated this year.

He is permitted to practice under a probationary status for the next three years.

In January Mr Meeker voluntarily agreed to discontinue administering anaesthesia, but is allowed to continue to practise nursing.
