A married couple have received three-year prison sentences after they uploaded videos of themselves having sex in a number of popular tourist hotspots.
Their sex tapes, recorded on a ferris wheel and near a beach area in South Carolina, were spotted online by police officers who studied the recordings closely and found clues that helped them track the miscreants down.
One of the offences took place on the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, a 187-foot-tall observation wheel consisting of 42 glass gondolas.
A spokesperson for the tourist attraction released a statement condemning the Harmons’ flagrant misuse of the facilities.
They wrote: “SkyWheel Myrtle Beach prides ourselves in providing a safe, family friendly attraction and atmosphere.
“This incident that we are just becoming aware of is extremely disturbing. They do not reflect our values, and we do not tolerate any behaviour that does not coincide with our family friendly environment.”
They pleaded guilty on Thursday, April 15, according to an statement from Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson.
George DeBusk, the senior assistant solicitor who prosecuted the case for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, confirmed that Eric Harmon, 37, of Garden City Beach, and Lori Harmon, 36, of Lexington, both had admitted two counts of indecent exposure related to incidents that took place in January this year.
A judge sentenced the couple to three years in prison suspended upon their service of two years’ probation and the charges will run concurrently. The couple also must pay $1,000 in restitution.
If they were to be caught repeating the illicit activities they could face prison time.
According to Surfside Beach police reports, the couple performed and recorded sex acts in a supermarket car park, and on a bench near a children’s playground.
Local news reports Lori Harmon is also being investigated by SBPD for two other allegedly filmed instances of indecent exposure where she exposed herself and urinated at a local baseball field, and at Floral Lake Playground,.
Eric Harmon was earlier charged with two counts of indecent exposure as well as one charge of participation in preparation of obscene material – both Class A misdemeanours.
The couple were originally arrested on January 16 by Horry County police after officers had been tipped off to videos showing them performing sex acts inside a glass gondola at the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel within view of the public, and at a community pool in the Surfside Beach area of Horry County sometime during December 2020.
The defendants recorded the acts and uploaded the video to an adult website, according to arrest warrants.
The news station reports that, according to police affidavits, the couple also recorded and uploaded a video to an adult website that showed them engaging in sexual activity at One Ocean Place hotel.
