Schoolgirl, 13, gives birth during maths exam after being ‘lured’ into sex in lockdown

A 13-year-old schoolgirl gave birth to a baby boy in the middle of a mathematics examination, it has been reported.

The incident happened at St Balikuddembe Primary School, Jalamba Ward in Buwama Town Council, Mpigi District, in Uganda, Daily Monitor reports.

Godfrey Ssemanda, the headteacher of the school, told local media outlets that the girl went into labour during the test on Wednesday, March 31, but that the invigilator gave her an extra 45 minutes to finish it afterwards.

“After 20 minutes, she alerted the invigilator who called colleagues and rushed the girl to a nearby medical centre,” Mr Ssemanda said.

“After the paper, she was allowed to return to the clinic and attend to the baby. She was able to do her Social Studies paper in the afternoon,” he later told NTV.

Ms Gorreti Nakachwa, a nurse at the clinic, said the girl had a normal delivery and got no complications.

The new mother said she was determined to carry on with her papers even if she had been subjected to a caesarean section.

“When I received labour pains, I felt like the world was ending, but I was confident that God was with me and I could not miss a single exam, am happy this has come to pass,” the young mother said.

The girl’s parents said their daughter had fallen pregnant after being “lured” into having sex during last year’s Covid-19 lockdown when she could not attend class in person.

“She was lured into conjugal acts during this Covid-19 lockdown by a certain boy because they were not going to school,” one of the parents said.
