Buhari Steps Down As Chairman Of Niger Basin Authority

The president, who declared that he will return to his cows to keep himself engaged after he leaves office, said that he had requested the gazette on grazing routes, which he claimed was previously operational, for effectiveness.

According to President Muhammadu Buhari’s position on the issue, the presidents and governors of southern states who recently declared open grazing restrictions in their states may be in for a significant struggle.

During an exclusive interview on Arise Television on Thursday morning, President Buhari expressed his views on the Governor’s moratorium on open grazing, stressing that the nation will continue open grazing but that cows will be restricted to existing grazing routes.

The president, who declared that he will return to his cows to keep himself engaged after he leaves office, said that he had requested the gazette on grazing routes, which he claimed was previously operational, for effectiveness.

Condemning the use of AK47 by headsmen, Buhari said the only weapon traditional herders carried aside their rod, was cutlass, which they use to cut obstructing woods and bushes while rearing their animals, insisting that, carrying guns by herders was not normal.

Asked exactly where his party had zoned the presidency in 2023 within the Southern part of the country, President Buhari said that would be decided by the party.

The party, he claims, has embraced a bottom-up approach. He claims that this will offer members a sense of belonging because the system will allow them to have a say in where the Presidency is not allocated.

Buhari defended the country’s choice to build roads and railway connections to the neighboring Niger Republic, saying it was motivated by the need to preserve good relations with the country’s neighbors.

He also stated that, now that the Niger Republic has crude oil, it is more reasonable to make it simpler for them to move their goods through Nigerian ports rather than giving the Benin Republic the benefit. This, he believes, will benefit the economy.
