A naked homeless man broke into a mansion in Bel Air, California and came face-to-face with the owner – but refused to leave.

Instead, he stayed at the house and tried on the owner’s clothes, swam in his pool, and killed his pet parakeets.

34-year-old Paul Kiyan broke into the mansion of Mat Sabz with a remote control he stole from an unlocked car in the driveway, reports MailOnline.

He was caught on the home’s CCTV cameras and he entered the house and started making his way up the stairs.

Owner Sabz only became aware of the intruder when his wife received an alert on her phone saying that someone was inside the house who shouldn’t be.

When Sabz came out to confront Kiyan, he remained calm and went for a swim in the owner’s pool.

“I see a man downstairs, eye to eye. Immediately I raised my voice and pointed at him saying “Hey what are you doing?”‘, Sabz told Fox 11.

But being confronted didn’t stop the burglar.

Instead, Kiyan looked at Sabz and said: “This is my house, what are you doing here? I’m going to call the police.”

“Right away I realized that this is not a person that you want to engage with any further,” Sabz explained.

The owner’s wife also screamed at Kiyan to leave, but it’s unclear whether she did so after returning to the home or through the speaker attached to the security cameras.

The intruder waltzed around the mansion in a pair of Sabz’s shorts, before sitting in a chair and looking at possessions dotted around the ground floor of the house.

When he spotted the two pet parakeets in a cage, the scenario took a cruel and gruesome turn.

Sabz said: “First he smiled at them like a serial killer. He put his hands near them, dropped them, and stomped on them.

“The other bird knew what was going on. You can hear the bird screaming and he did the same thing with the second bird. And that kind of changed everything when we saw that he killed these two defenseless animals.”

Sabz decided he had to escape, and jumped off the balcony and onto his car as he dialed 911.

Neighbourhood security soon arrived, followed by Beverly Hills Police who arrested Kiyan.

“You could say we dodged a bullet because who knew what this man could have done to my family if they were home?” Sabz said.

Kiyan is now facing burglary and animal cruelty charges.
