Mohale Facing R1 Million Lawsuit Over Showmax Special
Somizi Mhlongo’s estranged husband Mohale Motaung is facing a R1 million lawsuit over statements he made in his highly-anticipated Showmax special “Mohale: On The Record.”
This comes after Thami “Dish” Kotlolo took legal action against Mohale over the Showmax show.
Thami is not happy with the way Mohale portrayed him in the special, and is arguing that it was defamatory and damaging to his name and brand.
Thami Dish, through his lawyers, sent a letter of demand to Dope Zulu Boi Productions and Showmax.
In the letter of demand, he called on Mohale to issue a public apology. He also said that the public apology should be pinned on Mohale’s social media accounts for 3 months.
Thami Dish’s lawyers made it clear that if Mohale does not comply with the demands, they will file a R1 million lawsuit against him.
Part of Thami Dish’s letter of demand to Mohale Motaung and the threats of a R1 lawsuit reads,
We are further instructed that on this show, there were several allegations made against our client, some of which are that:
Our client was rooting for your relationship;
Witnessed and/or is/was aware of the abuse in the subject relationship of the show; and
Encouraged the relationship to continue.
In light of the above, our client has instructed us to demand from you, as we hereby do that:
You immediately cease and desist from making any further broadcast and/or publication of false, malicious and defamatory material pertaining to them.
Withdraw and retract all defamatory material, related to our client and issue an unconditional apology published on all your social media platforms, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram within 48 Hours of receipt of this letter. Your apology must be pinned to your platforms for a period of 2 months from the date hereof.
Should you fail to act as directed in the above paragraph, and provide our offices with an undertaking to this effect by 12:00 Midday, on the 12th of August 2022, we have instructions to approach the High Court for an order compelling you to do and seek a punitive cost order plus damages of R1 000 000 (One Million Rand) against you for the intentional, wrongful infringement and reputational damage suffered by our client to their good name, as a result of your conduct.
Earlier on, Thami Dish had released a statement on social media in which he made his displeasure clear about the Showmax special Mohale: On The Record.
Part of the statement reads,
“I was shocked and dismayed by the inclusion of my name in the Showmax special “Mohale: On The Record” with Mohale Motaung.
“I arrived at who I am today, having endured domestic abuse in a relationship that lasted many years in my youth. Finding the strength to leave that relationship and build my life on my own landed me in working closely with issues of Queer Rights Advocacy in my personal, professional and inter-relational life.
“This is why I am immensely triggered by the claims that I have condoned abuse in relationships close to me over the years.
“While I would have facilitated a meeting between the two parties at my house following an altercation, it would have been purely for the purposes of having both parties share their side of the story from their perspective.
“At no point was a suggestion made by myself that Mr Motaung returns to a home or relationship where there was ongoing abuse, and he knows this. That would have been a decision he took outside my influence.”
At the time of publishing, Mohale was yet to comment on Thami Dish’s R1 million lawsuit.
