After five days, a law student from Imo State University, Owerri, who had been reported missing was discovered dead.
Kingsley Chiwueze was reported missing on Monday, April 26 after unsuccessful search efforts.
The 300-level undergraduate, a native of the state’s Oguta Local Government Area, was involved in student union politics before announcing his candidacy for Senate President of the National Association of Imo State Students two weeks ago.
The President, Students Union Government, IMSU, Arinze Oguike, who confirmed the development, said the corpse was found in the morgue of the Umuguma General Hospital, Owerri, on Sunday.
He said students of the institution stormed the mortuary and the attendant told them that the corpse was deposited by the management of the St. Joseph Hospital, Wetheral, Owerri.
The student leader said;
“The attendant told us that Chiwueze’s corpse was brought by people from the St. Joseph hospital, Wetheral. We will go to the hospital to find out how they took custody of the student.”
When The Punch approached IMSU spokesman Ralph Njokuobi, he said he would discuss the discovery with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peter Akah.
Orlando Ikeokwu, the spokesman for the Imo state police, said he had not been briefed on the latest development.
