Marry Chiwenga Hospitalized As Health Deteriorates Ahead Of Divorce Hearing
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ailing estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa Chiwenga has been hospitalized after her health deteriorated further.
Mary who is currently engaged in a tumultuous and highly contentious divorce with the Vice President is reported to have been admitted at the Health Point Hospital in Belgravia.
The former model and video vixen was supposed to appear at the Harare Magistrates Court on Monday. Due to her hospitalization, the criminal cases were remanded to June 29.
Marry’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa told online publication Zimlive,
“She was further remanded to June 29 for her pending criminal cases.”
Her other lawyer, Douglas Coltart gave a terse statement to New Zimbabwe in which he said,
“She is very sick”
Marry is facing attempted murder charges. This is after the Vice President alleged that Marry tried to kill him while he lay incapacitated in a hospital in South Africa.
The 39-year-old has denied the allegations and is alleging that her husband is using the criminal charges to smear her reputation so that he can gain an upper hand in the divorce proceedings and the child custody battle. The two have three children together.
She is also facing six counts of illegally externalizing funds well worth over one million United States Dollars, five for money laundering and one for fraud where she allegedly forged a marriage certificate. The charges allege that she illegally solemnized a secret marriage without Chiwenga’s consent.
Marry’s divorce battle with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is set to start at the High Court on Tuesday. The matter will be heard by Justice Esther Muremba and has been penned for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
She is demanding an eye-popping US$40 000 per month until she dies or remarries. According to the former model, this amount is necessary to “maintain her current standard of living.” She also wants the children to be awarded US$2,500 per month each until they reach 18 years. The children are currently aged eight, seven and five.
The former military general is also being asked to pay the children’s school fees up to university, as well as to fund at least three annual holidays, among some of the demands.
The Vice President is reported to have applied for a gag order on the divorce proceedings to stop the media from reporting on it. The high court is yet to deliver judgement on the application for the gag order.
