Man Teams Up With Thugs To Kidnap, Rob Mother & Sister Who Had Returned From The UK
A Bulawayo man has gone on the run after he teamed up with a gang of robbers to kidnap and rob his mother and sister who had just returned from the UK.
iHarare has learned from the Chronicle that 35-year-old Justin Ndebele from Burnside orchestrated the kidnapping and robbery when he learned that his mother and sister were coming for a visit.
He is alleged to have hatched the plan with a suspect only identified as Jason. The two then enlisted the services of Mehluli Ncube (29) and Terrence Tafadzwa George Shumba (28) to carry out the crime.
On Tuesday, Justin’s mother Ms Catherine Mashakata and his sister Ms Reina Ndebele (33) landed at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport where he was waiting to take them home.
On their way from the airport, Justin who was driving a Toyota Wish vehicle informed his mother and sister that he was going to use a shortcut. He turned from the main road and went into a gravel road.
After travelling along the gravel road for a few minutes, the Toyota Wish was overtaken and then blocked by a Honda Fit which had no number plates.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube to the publication,
“Out of the vehicle came three men who were wielding machetes and knives who threatened them and demanded that they hand over all their belongings. The suspects tied all the three and one of them force-marched the son into the Honda Fit vehicle and drove away with him. The other two suspects Mehluli and Terrence took over the Toyota Wish and drove into the city centre with both the mother and daughter as their hostages. Their hands were still tied.”
While in the city centre, the robbers swapped vehicles again with the mother and daughter being transferred to the Honda Fit. Justin was transferred to the Toyota Wish and Jason drove off.
Fortunately for the mother and sister, alert police officers observed that there was something fishy about the occupants of the Honda Fit. The officers reacted quickly and apprehended the two suspects.
“When the arrest was made, the woman and her daughter narrated that they had just landed in the country before being robbed. The mother said the robbers had taken away her son. However, the two suspects revealed that her son was the mastermind behind the robbery. They revealed that they were hired by the son together with another suspect named Jason, who is on the run.”
Inspector Ncube went on to say that the police had recovered most of the property which had been stolen from the mother and sister.
“Police recovered US$1 460 which the two suspects were in possession of…the value of the stolen property is estimated at US$5 900 and property worth US$3 060 was recovered. The remaining property is suspected to have been taken away by Ndebele and his other accomplice,” he said.
The police have since launched a manhunt for the ungrateful son and his companion.
