A killer allegedly sucker-punched and murdered his neighbour because he couldn’t beat his own girlfriend, the victim’s heartbroken husband has said.
Washington Andrade de Jesus, 36, is said to have set his apartment on fire and killed himself after attacking mum-of-two Aline dos Santos Viana, 32.
Cops are investigating whether he sexually assaulted her before the murder at their apartment building in the south-eastern coastal Brazilian municipality of Sao Vicente on the morning of April 9.
She lived on the same floor as the security guard was described as being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The victim’s husband, Charles da Silva Vicente said he and his wife knew Andrade de Jesus only by sight, even though they lived on the same floor.
He told local news site G1: “He fought with his wife that same day… I think he was unable to beat his wife, who had left the house, and he targeted my wife. I think my wife suffered what his wife didn’t.”
The attack took place just as Aline was leaving for work, and security camera footage shows how she and the suspect were in the same lift without exchanging a word moments before the attack was launched.
Moments later, the alleged perpetrator can be seen loitering in the garage of the apartment building, waiting for the victim to return to the spot where he is standing.
He is then seen standing behind her, and just as she turns her head to face him, he lands a heavy punch on her face, knocking her unconscious before he drags her away.
Charles later woke up to messages from his wife’s boss, informing him that she had not shown up for work.
He went down to the garage, where he found his wife’s motorbike with the key still in the ignition.
Charles approached the building manager, and the pair found Aline’s dead body near the building’s staircase.
They called the police and then followed a trail of blood leading to the suspect’s apartment.

Shortly after the police arrived at the scene, smoke began to emerge from the apartment, and a thud was heard.
The suspect had thrown himself from his seventh-floor window and had died upon impact with the ground.
Police have registered the case as a homicide and are currently investigating whether the victim was sexually assaulted.
The man’s sister and girlfriend have since told the police that the suspect had a history of drug addiction, though he had allegedly been clean for a year.
Cause of death and motive for the crime are as yet unknown. However, the victim’s husband revealed that the suspect’s girlfriend was not at home at the time.
Aline leaves behind her husband and two daughters, 3 years and 7 months. The investigation continues.
