Kim Jong-un was seen sporting a leather bomber jacket and a pair of slick sunglasses as he appeared in a very Hollywood-style propaganda video to oversee the launch of a new missile.
The North Korean leader’s bold outfit was likened to be very similar to Tom Cruise’s character in Top Gun.
The video, shared by NK News, shows the 38-year-old supreme leader walking out from a military warehouse front and centre, next to two of his generals.
Behind him shows an armoured vehicle towing the new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) out to the testing site.
The dramatic cutaways turns the camera to show the size of Hwasong-17 missile, which is reportedly the biggest liquid-fuelled missile ever launched by any country from a road-mobile launcher.
With the slow motion effects, Kim puts on a serious expression as he looks down on his watch, checking on the time.
Kim then takes off his cool shades and looks at the technician, who is seen waving a yellow flag to guide the vehicle and giving a “thumbs up” to approve the launch test.
The “new type” of missile reportedly flew for 677 miles (1,090km) to a maximum altitude of 3,882 miles (6,248km) and hit a target in the sea between North Korea and Japan.
State-run news agency KCNA said Kim ordered the launch in part due to the “daily escalating military tension in and around the Korean Peninsula” and the “long-lasting confrontation with the US imperialists accompanied by the danger of nuclear war”.
Viewers were quick to share their thoughts on the video and the dictator was brutally mocked.
One said: “Next stage for our costume designers…”
“B-grade propaganda video,” a second commented and a third added: “Gangnam Style vibes from this, Kimmy.”
“Top Un,” a fourth wrote and attached an edited movie poster with Kim Jong-un’s face on Tom Cruise.
