A wannabe serial killer who slit the throat of his 14-year-old school friend died in prison from a possible drug overdose, it has been claimed.
Michael Hernandez, 31, lured Jamie Gough into a school bathroom at Southwood Middle in Palmetto Bay, Miami, where he slit the teen’s throat before hiding the murder weapon in a hidden pocket in his backpack.
On the same day, Hernandez also tried to coax another student, Andrew Martin, to the bathroom but he was unsuccessful.
Jurors at Hernandez’s 2008 trial heard the then-schoolboy had become fixated on becoming a serial killer, and even wrote a list of people he wanted to murder in his journal.
Hernandez’s claim that he was legally insane at the time of the killing was rejected by the court, and he was found guilty of attempted murder and first-degree murder.
The killer had been serving out his life-sentence at Columbia Correctional Institution in Lake City, Florida, until Thursday April 29, where he was found dead.

According to sources familiar with the incident, CBS said there is video footage of Hernandez collapsing inside the prison, which is just outside Jacksonville.
