A CCTV footage has captured a terrifying moment a kidnapper snatching a young from the bus stop and bundling her into his car.

The nine-year-old was walking home near Merino and Grover streets of Rhodes Island when the incident happened on Monday (October 5).

Video released by the police shows a man, who is seen wearing a blue face mask, coming out of a grey Nissan SUV and appearing to grab the schoolgirl from behind.

He carries her back to the vehicle and immediately drives off.

Luis Martinez-Romero, 34, was arrested on October 6 on charges of kidnapping of a minor and sexual assault in relation to the incident.

Mayra Lopez, who re-watched her CCTV, alleged that the suspect put his hand around the young girl’s mouth in an interview with ABC New

“You see the little girl try to get away from him,” she claimed. “He threw her in the car, went straight down.

“Oh, my God. It’s scary. The first time I’ve seen something like that.”

According to the Providence Police Department, the girl was returned to the same area about an hour later.

Officers later knocked on Ms Lopez’s door asking for surveillance camera footage.

She told the outlet: “They came over here asking who got cameras, and I said, ‘I got cameras’.”

Police used surveillance cameras like hers to grab shots of the kidnapper’s grey Nissan SUV and tracked down the suspect.

A spokesperson for the police said: “This dangerous individual has been removed from the streets of our city due to the swift and vigilant work of our officers who worked tirelessly on this case.”
