Josef Fritzl ‘no longer danger’ and to be released from psychiatric facility

The monster Josef Fritzl is set to be released from a psychiatric facility and into a normal prison as he “no longer poses any danger”, according to a court.

Fritzl, now aged 87, was sentenced to life imprisonment for incest, rape, coercion, false imprisonment, enslavement and the negligent killing of one of his infant sons back in 2009.

The case first emerged in 2008, when his daughter Elisabeth Fritzl told police in the town of Amstetten, Austria, that she had been held captive by her father in a specially-built soundproof basement for 24 years.

She had been repeatedly raped by him and gave birth to seven of his children, three of which were held captive with her, while three were raised by Josef and his wife, Rosemarie.

The final child, a boy, died shortly after birth in 1996 and Fritzl burned his body.

But now a three-judge state court panel ruled that he should be moved from psychiatric detention as his latest assessment claims he “no longer poses any danger”, a court spokesman Ferdinand Schuster told the Austria Press Agency.

The panel at the state court in Krems set a 10-year probation period and other conditions, which needs approval in Vienna after prosecutors appealed.

The perverted father will remain in the psychiatric facility until a decision is made as it is not legally binding until the higher court makes a ruling.

The ruling would have meant Fritzl will be eligible for release as early as 2023 after serving 15 years of his sentence – nine years less than Elisabeth spent trapped in his basement dungeon.

However, the Vienna Higher Regional Court overturned this decision on November 8, 2021 and instructed the Krems Regional Court to make a new decision.
