John Aylward was a recognizable character actor who started his career in the theater. He was one of the founders of the Empty Space Theatre in Seattle and a member of the Seattle Repertory Theatre. His breakthrough role came on the popular medical drama ‘ER,’ which aired on NBC. Aylward played surgeon Donald Anspaugh from season 3 until the end of the series. His other television roles included DNC chairman Barry Goodwin on ‘The West Wing’ and appearances on ‘Mad Men,’ and ‘American Horror Story.’
