Jerome Galiao is a Zimbabwean actor, model and media personality best known for his role as Dr Nyasha Mugari on the e.tv soapie Scandal! He has also starred in numerous soapies, including Isithembiso, Scandal, Gomora and The Queen.

Jerome Galiao’s Age and Background

 

Jerome was born on 5 June 1984. As of 2022, the Zimbabwean actor is 38 years old.

The “Dr Nyasha Mugari” actor grew up in Ardbennie and Mbare, in the capital. Mbare was the first township established in 1907, and it is also one of the poorest suburbs in Harare.

In the actor’s own words, he “grew up in the hood, climbing trees in the yard and playing slug (foosball) at the shops like most kids.”

Jerome went to Ardbennie Primary School for grades one to seven. After that, he proceeded to Prince Edward High School.

How Did Jerome Galiao’s Acting Career Start?

While in primary school, Jerome thought he wanted to be an actor or an archaeologist. However, he later discovered that his true passion was for acting.

While in his teens, he applied for a job at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) and landed the role as a presenter of the youth-oriented show aptly named “Youth.com.”

Youth.com was a new concept, and Jerome and his co-presenter were the first presenters.

Following his success on Youth.com, Jerome was featured in a number of TV commercials in Zimbabwe.

He later landed a role in the award-winning television drama “Estate Blues.”

Following the meltdown of Zimbabwe’s economy in 2008, Jerome made his way to South Africa in search of greener pastures.

 

In South Africa, Jerome was featured on many television shows and soapies which include ‘Umlilo’, ‘The Queen’, ‘Zabalaza’, ‘Gomorrah’ and ‘Housewives’.

He was also featured in a movie called Broken Vows as Ezra.

However, most of the roles were small and inconsistent, and Jerome had to supplement his earnings by working other jobs.

After almost 13 years in South Africa, Jerome’s big break came when he landed the role of Dr Nyasha Mugari on e.tv’s Scandal!

Speaking on how he landed the role, Jerome said,

“The production team initially cast for anyone who spoke an African language other than those spoken in South Africa,” Jerome said.

“So, it was Nigerians, Congolese, Ghanaians, Zimbabweans, Malawians, it was not easy, and we all had to audition in our own home languages. I made it. I got the role of a lifetime as an African actor, here on South African television, this is a huge achievement and I would like to believe that I have made it.

“Like any actor here in South Africa, landing a role in a huge production is the ultimate achievement; it’s all you want.”
