Great Zimbabwe University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Accused Of Stealing 150 Road-Runner Chickens From A Janitor
Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor Munyaradzi Manyanga who is alleged to have stolen 150 chickens from the college’s janitor has reportedly been called in for questioning.
This comes after, an aggrieved Fortune Nguvo, a janitor at GZU filed a theft police report, prompting the police to investigate the matter.
Nguvo accused Pro-Vice-Chancellor Manyanga of breaking into her place of residence before stealing 150 road-runner chickens while she and her family were away attending a funeral. Manyanga is alleged to have sold the chickens in the vicinity.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the latest developments and said investigations on the case are now in progress.
“All I can say at the moment is that investigations on the alleged offense are underway,” Dhewa said.
An investigation by police from the Masvingo Criminal Investigations Department (CID) under reference CR 34/03/21 pointed to Prof Manyanga as the chief suspect in the theft of the roadrunner chickens.
Meanwhile, sources close to the investigations claim Pro-Vice-Chancellor Manyanga and one Dr. Shamanda didn’t steal the alleged chickens but bought them from Nguvo.
Manyanga and Dr. Shamanda both gave their statements to the police this week.
The police also visited the scene of the alleged crime and took statements, pictures, and videos as part of their evidence.
Speaking during an interview with NewZimbabwe, a partly relieved Nguvo said she believed justice would prevail.
She revealed that she was happy that at least now there was progress on the matter.
She added that it was her prayer that the police will do their job without fear or favor so that the case will come to an end and that she will recover what was taken from her.
