Jimoh Raji Atanda, the 52-year old father of late Jimoh Isiaka who was killed by bullets while joining the #EndSars protest in Ogbomoso last Saturday has called for a thorough investigation into the death of his son.
Holding a bullet recovered just beside the body of the victim, the father narrated how doctors removed three bullets from his son’s body but they couldn’t save him ….
Jimoh Isiaka was shot multiple times allegedly by the Police though this has been rebutted by the Force which claimed to have used only tear gas to disperse the protesters.
Oyo state police spokesperson, Olugbenga Fadeyi claimed that the police did not shoot at the protesters:
“It was not true (that the police shot). I spoke with the Area Commander and he told me that nothing of such occurred. They did not shoot anybody. The police allowed them to protest for over one hour.
“But, at a point, they wanted to force themselves into the police station. They (Police) only used tear gas to disperse them so that they will not go into the police station and destroy it.”
Inspite of this denial, however, there is no evidence that any of the protesters was armed with a gun and witnesses insisted that the protesters were dispersed with gunshots and teargas as they approached a police building in Owode area of Ogbomoso.
One of the bullets hit Mr Isiaka who was rushed to the hospital but later died. He was buried same Saturday evening.
