A Brit twin who was savaged by a crocodile has come out of a coma after her wounds became infected with sepsis.

After saving her sibling’s life, Georgia was treated for hand wounds but was later released from hospital, reports The Sun.

But despite Melissa waking up from the coma, the situation is “still really serious”.

The twin’s older sister, Hana Laurie, 33, told BBC Breakfast: “We’re not relaxing just yet.

“Melissa had a lot of water and grass and things in her lungs.”

Before the vicious attack, the zookeeper was swimming late at night, 10 miles from surfing resort Puerto Escondido, in Mexico.

The crocodile gripped onto her body and plunged her underwater whilst throwing her “around like a rag doll”.

Georgia’s brave antics fought the creature off Melissa with a wave of smacks and jabs.

Now, Hana has launched a GoFundMe page to raise cash to help the family travel to Mexico and fund steep medical costs.

She wrote on the site: “Mel is very bruised, has two black eyes and deep cuts to her face, torso, and leg where the crocodile has bitten and scratched her.

“My sisters were taking a break from their ambitions to scuba dive and work with animals when they took a trip with a guide recommended by their hostel.

“It’s still unclear exactly where they were, but a crocodile attacked the group and viciously bit and shook Melissa.

“It has since transpired that this guide was known locally to be operating in an unlicensed and illegal way, but since is nowhere to be found.

“We are so lucky that Georgia was there, and had immediate reaction through her water rescue training to fight off the crocodile and drag Mel to safety.”

Melissa is not in the clear just yet and her condition remains “serious”

The girl’s mum Sue Laurie, 63, praised her twin’s indestructible bond that saved Melissa.

She told the Daily Mail: “They have always been there for each other.

“The girls can fight like cats and dogs, but there is no closer relationship than twins. They will do anything for each other.

“And what happened in Mexico shows just that. If Georgia had not have been there who knows what would have happened.”

The pair had been seeing the world together since March and were meant to come home in November.
