Driver Who Hit Minor In Borrowdale Hit And Run Accident Fined $15 000
A driver who made headlines recently after hitting a minor in Borrowdale was yesterday fined $15 000 by a Harare magistrate.
Herbert Chakanyuka pleaded guilty to negligent driving and failure to stop at the accident scene charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Tendai Muchini.
He was fined $5 000 for failing to stop at the accident scene and another $10 000 for negligent driving.
Magistrate Muchini also ordered the endorsement of Chakanyuka’s license.
The State proved that on March 28, and at a traffic light controlled intersection on Borrowdale Road and Harare Drive, Chakanyuka negligently drove his car and hit a pedestrian who is a minor, who was standing at the intersection. He did not stop at the accident scene.
The incident was captured on CCTV and went viral on social media platforms leading to Chakanyuka’s arrest.

In other news, iHarare had reported that there was drama at a sports club in Bulawayo when a tree cutter attempted to cut off a suspected hooker’s hand using a chainsaw over US$40 he had given her to buy beer.
The dramatic incident unfolded after Josphat Maphosa, a tree cutter, gave the woman US$40 to buy beer. The hooker then furtively left him and joined another men’s table at Parkview Sports Club in Paddonhurst before they started enjoying beer together.
iHarare also reported that a 32-year-old Belvedere woman was dragged to court yesterday after she reportedly deliberately transmitted HIV to her boyfriend.
Tendai Dhliwayo, 32, was recently arrested after her boyfriend (name not supplied) discovered that she was cheating on him with several men.
According to court papers, the two started dating on Valentine’s Day.
