Barbers allegedly request consent letters from a woman’s husband or any male relative before service in Akwa Ibom

A Nigerian lady has accussed barbers in Akwa Ibom of discrimination as she revealed that women cannot get a haircut without their husband’s or boyfriend’s consent in the state.

The woman said she does not really know the reasons why such is the case but she was told the practice started in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state when a soldier arrested a barber for cutting his wife’s hair.

Ekiti said that the same thing is obtainable in some parts of Lagos and Enugu states.

In her post on the micro-messaging platform, she also said that a woman could be billed more for the same service a man would get for less.
