Babes Wodumo Reveals Why She Danced At Mampintsha’s Mother’s Funeral
Babes Wodumo has been in the news for her behaviour at her husband Mampintsha and her mother-in-law’s funerals.
Opinion among South Africans is divided with some sympathising with the Wololo hitmaker while others have labelled her as disrespectful.
She danced at her husband’s funeral much to the displeasure of her in-laws.
When her mother-in-law Zamanguni Gumede passed away, Babes Wodumo was back with her antics. The musician, born Bongekile Simelane, made headlines when she danced at her mother-in-law’s memorial and funeral services.
She, however, trended for dancing next to her mother-in-law’s coffin. Babes Wodumo delivered a moving speech at Zamanguni Gumede’s funeral and also addressed her dancing.
Babes Wodumo said she was not trying to grab the media’s attention but she was showing respect to her late mother-in-law by celebrating her life.
“I wasn’t doing this to show off or that I want the media to paint me in a good light. This woman lying here is also my mother, she gave birth to my husband. So God has taught me the ministry of forgiveness and I’ve done that,” she said.
Babes Wodumo and her mother-in-law had a strained relationship but the two smoked the peace pipe at Mampintsha’s funeral. The two agreed to let bygones be bygones but Mampintsha’s sister Pinky said that was not the case as Babes Wodumo did not visit Zamanguni when she was admitted to the hospital.
Zamanguni was also critical of how her late son’s widow was mourning her late husband. She said while she was aware people mourn differently, Babes Wodumo was disrespecting Mampintsha by failing to observe the mourning tradition.
However, Babes Wodumo seems to have put the latest criticism from her in-laws behind her. The Gqom musician vowed to take care of her in-laws and implored them to contact her if they ever needed anything.
