ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST| Top SA Celebrity Loses Mansion To Bank

A top SA celebrity, actor and comedian David Kau has reportedly lost his mansion to a bank.

The high court in Johannesburg granted FNB an order to auction off Kau’s multi-million rand home after he defaulted on payments to the bank.

The order read:

A default judgment is granted in favour of the applicant against the first respondent for the amount of R1 398 651.35. The immovable property known as … measuring 54 square metres … is declared especially executable.”

“[The] applicant is authorised to issue writs of attachment calling upon the sheriff of the above honourable court to attach the property. The sheriff of the above honourable court is to sell the property by auction arranged in terms of the provisions of Uniform Rule 46.

Kau’s property is valued at over R1.9-million, and the actor could save his home if he pays arrears and the bank’s legal costs.

Kau and the banking group entered into a building loan agreement on 26 April 2006, and the comedian was granted more than R1.6-million. He was also given an additional loan of R330 000.

David Kau agreed to repay the loan with R14 000 monthly instalments but reportedly defaulted in May 2021, and he’s now over R275 000 in arrears.

FNB’s legal team allegedly wrote a letter to the comedian pleading with him to settle the arrears, but he failed to do so.

Kau then filed a notice of motion to rescind and set aside the judgment and a writ of execution last week after learning the bank was granted permission to take away and sell off his home.

He wrote a letter to the bank, arranging to pay the loan and clear the arrears in six months, but FNB turned down his request. Now David Kau is in real danger of losing his mansion.
